Meat exports were mixed for the first half of the year—that is according to data from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF).
U.S. pork export numbers were excellent with shipments 14 percent above last year’s pace, and value up 12 percent.
“Mexico is certainly the 2023 pacesetter for U.S. pork exports but what’s really exciting is that the industry is achieving such broad-based growth internationally,” said USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom. “Exports are making impressive gains in the Western Hemisphere and reclaiming market share in many Asia-Pacific markets, and U.S. pork is well-positioned to continue gaining momentum in the second half.”
U.S. beef exports were down 13 percent year-over-year for the first half of 2023. However, the USMEF says they are still the highest since October 2022.
