Lawmakers and stakeholders are applauding the latest actions in the U.S.-Mexico GM corn trade dispute.
Senator Chuck Grassley says that for some time Mexico has been threatening U.S. producers with this ban and it would have a chilling effect on the corn market.
According to the Senator, “This panel of experts I hope is exciting that most rules of international trade dealing with food must be based on science. Where’s the precedent Mexico’s using political science as well as sound science as a basis for keeping corn out of Mexico. So, I’m going to be watching very closely for the dispute panel’s outcome.”
The National Corn Growers Association also applauds the decision and says that Mexico’s decree is in direct violation of the USMCA.
