The Magic House is helping get more people engaged with agriculture in the St. Louis area

This month the Magic House, at the St. Louis Children’s Museum, hosted the annual Fall Farm Fest.

The family-friendly event includes play areas, science projects, and hands-on educational activities. The Missouri Farm Bureau Regional Coordinator says that it is a joint project between Farm Bureau Federations.

“So, our group is called the Gateway Information Committee and we have been partnering for many many years, over 20 years. And, originally, we were doing radio ads in the St. Louis area, and as more and more people got to thinking, ‘What are ways we can promote ag in St. Louis besides just radio ads?’ and we came up with ideas with the Magic House with the Science Center and so it’s just kind of morphed into more physical activities with people and trying to get more people engaged and learning about agriculture and where their food comes from,” Nick Roberts explains.

As you might imagine, there is one area where the kids light up with excitement and that is around the farm animals. The kids get up close and personal with newborn calves and sheep, while also learning about agriculture.

The Farm Fest, which started about 10 years ago, is held at the St. Louis Children’s Museum each September.
