Smithfield is set to lay off nearly 100 employees

We are learning more about the hog farm closures we first told you about earlier this year involving the world’s largest pork processor.

Smithfield Foods will be closing 35 hog farms across Missouri and laying off 92 employees. This comes as the U.S. meat industry continues to struggle with declining profits and reduced consumer demand.

Just recently, Tyson announced it would close four poultry plants due to declining demand, market conditions, and higher feed costs.

The closures and layoffs at Smithfield are set to take effect October 8th.
