With a government shutdown looking more likely, one lawmaker is pushing for national parks and public lands to remain open.
Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming sent a letter to the Interior Secretary asking her to utilize the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. It is an effort to protect public access of public places and prevent irreversible environmental degradation.
The Senator wants to use visitor fees to pay for the upkeep of the parks and lands even if federal funding runs dry, which happened during the 2019 government shutdown.
